The Self-Destructing Party

"If Clinton wins, I'm voting for McCain in the general."
"If Obama wins, I'm voting for McCain in the general."

If Democrats seek to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again, then comments and name-calling like the above certainly are helping us on our way.  Passionate support for a candidate is understandable, but this is primary season.  We are selecting a candidate to head our party to run against John McCain.  When all is said and done and the dust clears, I would surely hope that supporters of the losing candidate at least vote for the winner in the general election.

For instance, this comment puzzles me:

Well, shouldn't we rather have Hillary lose Wisconsin in the general election to McCain than have OBama beat McCain in Wisconsin?

Obviously the implication is that "we" would rather have Hillary run in the General election than Barack.  But that's not what Clinton supporters should be thinking.  It should be that you would rather have Hillary as POTUS than Barack and rather have either of the two above McCain.  It would be no small task for the Democrat to win the general election without Wisconsin (both Gore and Kerry carried it by small margins), so what this statement is saying is that the poster would rather have McCain win this election than Obama, and that's a rather disturbing sentiment.
